Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

be able to explain the legal and ethical issues of privacy and confidentiality of social media use as it relates to the Nursing Code of Conduct (NMBA 1.1, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.6, 9.2, 9.5).
be able to explain the concepts of academic integrity, ownership, intellectual property, and copyright and apply these concepts through correct use of attribution and referencing (NMBA 1.1, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, 10.4)
be able to compose a piece of academic writing supported by the literature using academic conventions (NMBA 3.3, 4.1, 9.2).
be able to locate information that is relevant to the field of nursing, evaluate the sources of that information and select high quality information to formulate and support an academic argument (NMBA 2.1, 2.2, 2.5, 3.3).

Syllabus
The subject will cover the following topics:
Module 1: Getting Started. Use the digital learning tools provided by the University to support their learning in this subject. Apply concepts of professional identity and community expectations.
Module 4: Communicating as a nursing professional. Apply the concepts of intellectual property and copyright by demonstrating competence in referencing. Explain the concepts of intellectual property and copyright in the academic and digital worlds. Explore the ways multidiscipline teams communicate. Apply legal and ethical frameworks to communication strategies.
Module 5: Using information to learn. Choose strategies to support their learning of different types of knowledge, such as, scientific, conceptual information. Apply the concepts of intellectual property and copyright by demonstrating competence in referencing. Write a short text that presents a position and supports that with evidence, and uses the conventions of academic writing. Apply the basic principles of numeracy to complete basic calculations.
