Abstract: Transgender Attending All Male & All Female Colleges Transgender refers to the people who have a gender identity or rather gender expression that is different from their assigned gender. Transgender people face a lot of challenges in the society including discrimination and mistreatment in society. Such people, for instance, could not be admitted into schools since they were always treated unfairly. The continued fight for equality for all people in American society has pushed for the rights of transgender people. The treatment they get in the society has changed significantly and this has contributed to them living a better life in society. A number of colleges that could not accept transgender people, for instance, are now being admitted in such schools and colleges. Morehouse College is one of the colleges that has adopted a policy of admitting transgender men. The move is aimed at protecting the transgender community which for a very long time has faced a lot of mistreatment in the society. Morehouse College has been historically an all-male black school in Atlanta. It has been admitting male black students however, with the recent adoption of the policy of allowing transgender community in the school, transgender men will start being admitted in the college. Through admission of the transgender people in the college will greatly promote their education in the society hence make them better people. The minority group in the United States have also been neglected hence making them undergo untold suffering in the society. Human rights campaign works have tirelessly created awareness in the society for equality and inclusion of transgender people (Griner, Vamos, Thompson, Logan, Vázquez-Otero, & Daley, 2017). The campaigns have yielded a lot of benefits to the transgender community as their treatment has changed significantly. Through the awareness campaign, people have changed their attitude towards the transgender community and this has greatly improved their treatment in society. • Power & Conflict • Theoretical Framework: Systematic Theory • Method: To research the policies of these colleges • Outcome: Find out if there is any discrimination issue (HBCU or Predominantly White Colleges) References Griner, S. Stephen Dolphus June 5, 2019 HTS 3020-Literature Review This is an article that looks into the better treatment that transgender students receive in women colleges. The authors go deep into researching the conditions which transgender students live with, and they assess the impact that it has on their studies. The researchers interview several people, and the information that they gather from these interviews is clear enough to be assessed. The results indicate that the transgender that is in women colleges get better treatment, and they also feel that the learning environment is better. The downside of this research is that it did not consider the different races, and the sample was primarily consisting if white individuals. They could improve by having a more dives sample to guarantee that the results that are found are good enough and reflect the situation in society. The references used in the study are also good but could be more diverse for better information (Frietas, 2017). This study looks into details the prejudice and problems that male and female transgender people face. The idea to check the two on a different scale is a very good one as allows one to identify the difference between the two. The results indicated that transgender women are more likely to face discrimination. This is partly due to the muscular nature that they have. The research is very good first because it explores an area where other researches have not checked. It is also found that the majority of women are more accommodative of transgender people compared to men. The research could have increased the number of participants to get a more accurate result (White & Jenkins, 2017) The story of Ninotska Love is one that is moving and also very inspiring. It is notable that the first struggle that people have to face when they are transgender is that they have to identify themselves. Some people take a long period before they can get to understand which gender they can relate with. Discrimination is also identified to be international as these issues are considered to be taboo across different societies. The acceptance that Wellesley college did of Love was a major win as it shows that institutions can accept transgender individuals and these individuals can fit into the society comfortably and become productive members of the society (Love, 2017). The study focuses on the mental health of students within the age gap of 18 years and 26 years. This focus helps categorize the individuals that are within the years of campus and studying in different institutions. Twelve health conditions were checked to help tell if an individual was suffering from different conditions. These results were checked alongside those of people that are not transgender, and it indicated that transgender students were at double the risk of mental illness. The study was conducted well, and this can be seen in having more than 1000 students forming the sample. It would, however, be better if the study took into consideration the international context and was conducted across several countries (Oswalt & Lederer, 2017). The study looks into the idea of how colleges are supposed to offer assistance to students that are transgender in their campuses. The assessment of the experiences that transgender students have and it also looks into detail what can be done to improve the situations that they are facing from time to time. The study is accurate concerning the experiences as they were able to get real experiences that other people have gone through and they used this information to draw a larger picture of what transgender students go through. The study could be improved by having an assessment of both transgender women and men separately to understand the unique challenges that they face (Beemyn, Curtis, Davis & Tubbs, 2005). These concepts provide guidance in research, making it possible for the researcher to determine various aspects that need to be considered and the expected outcomes. It is somehow similar to a theory. Why the topic is important to be discussed A theoretical framework is essential when it comes to exploratory studies. These are studies where the researcher does not know much about the issue at hand, and he/she is trying to learn more. In this case, there are two significant reasons why a theoretical framework is important. First, despite the little information one might be having in relation to any topic, human beings will always have pre-convinced notions. They tend to have their own conclusions even without doing much research. For this reason, the theoretical framework provides starting points to any research. It allows the researcher to begin with what they know, in order to know much about what they don’t. In this case, a problem is reduced by making the researcher’s implicit framework explicit. The theoretical framework also incorporates all ideas. In this case, all the thoughts of the researcher tend to make sense, and in one way or another, it leads to better results. It becomes possible to realize a lot of things in the research process. Generally, theoretical research is a tool which enhances critical thinking and analysis among the researchers in order for them to obtain the accurate results they need. Definition of transgender Transgender is a term used to describe a person whose identity does not match the sex which was assigned to them at birth. For instance, it can be referred to a person who is identified as a woman despite being born with male genitalia. In achieving these changes, some people dress their dressing code and even name to the opposite sex, and others use hormones or surgeries to change their appearance and feelings. Research method: To research the policies of the colleges In determining the school which does not discriminate transgendered students, it would be essential to research in the school policies provided in the different boys and girls schools. This method of checking on the school policies. This method relates to gender discrimination theory. This is because having looked at the rules, and regulations aspects like transgender are more likely to be highlighted, and the date of the same students. Looking at the watt h school deals with guys would also provide a hint on the extent to which transgender might be tolerated. Outcomes: Discrimination issues in Predominantly White Colleges In these colleges, racial discrimination is the main challenge being faced by black students. This has even made it difficult for the blacks to perform well and even survive in these schools, due to the high level of discriminations they are subjected into. They are normally considered to be of less priority when comes to different activities in school. For these reasons, more campaigns are being carried out in these schools, to fight for the rights of the blacks. It is a high time that society should understand the importance of practicing equality. This is the only way it would become possible for students to share ideas, leading to greater positive impacts on the whole society. The issue of transgender is actually less as compared to racial discrimination.
