For this task, you will prepare a diversity sensitivity training suitable for presentation to a local high school. Imagine that due to financial issues in your school district, two high schools have to merge. In one high school the majority of students are either African American or Hispanic; slightly over 50 percent of the students in the other high school come from a mixture of the following ethnic groups: Native Americans, Arab Americans, and Chinese Americans.
Give an illustrated PowerPoint presentation that will help the students understand prejudice and stereotypes by showing them stereotypes commonly applied to their own group and to other groups.
To prepare your presentation, address the following:
- Locate one image (picture or drawing) that demonstrates a common negative stereotype for each group.
- Locate one image per group that shows the group in a positive light and dispels the negative image of the stereotype.
- Include one image showing a negative stereotype and positive view of persons of the diverse group with which you identify (this could be based on race, ethnicity, age, gender, profession…).
- Conclude the presentation with a discussion of stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination and how they can influence our interaction with others.
All images should be properly cited on the slides.
Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as “speaker notes” for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.
Support your presentation with at least five web resources these high school students can access to find out more about these issues. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.
Length: 10-12 slides (with a separate reference slide)
Notes Length: 50-100 words for each slide
