Name of story: The Cask of Amontillado
Author and important information about him/her: Edgar Allan Poe. An American writer who contributed to the American literature being one of the early short story writers and a central figure in Romanticism. He is also considered the inventor of detective fiction genre and contributed to the emergence of the science fiction genre.
Time period/era:
1809-1849
Setting: An unnamed Italian town within an unidentified time assumed to be between 18th and 19th century.
Characters: major (name and briefly describe: round/dynamic? Flat/static?)
Fortunato – he is a respected and wealthy drunkard who is feared and respected within their town. He is identified to be a wine expert, proud, stubborn and always insulting others.
Montresor- he is the narrator who is seeking revenge. He is wealthy, cunning and deceptive which he used to trap Fortunato to deliver his revenge.
Luchesi- a different wine connoisseur who is only stated in the story but does not play a role or appear in the story itself.

Fortunato: He is a friend to the narrator “Montresor” who states to be a member of the masons group. He is a wine connoisseur, and was trap through his drunkenness to deliver the revenge.
Theme:
To deliver a message about life and human nature and in this case the theme is revenge. The dark and mysterious recesses of life and human psyche lead to revenge.
Plot:
Fortunato has been using insult which leads to Montresor to vow for revenge. Montresor then informs Fortunato about the Amontillado. While Montresor pretends to oppose the idea of going to the vault, Fortunato insists on the idea and he is led to the furthest chamber. The climax is when Montresor chains Fortunato to a wall and start bricking up the entrance with stone and mortar. During his actions he keeps hearing the jingling of the belt thinking that his friend was awaking but he manages to place the last stone. The narrator states that nobody has ever discovered about it for over fifty years.
Point of view (type of narrator):
The story is narrated in the first person point of view with the first character Montresor narrates what happened between him and his friend who used to insult them, and in the end he states that for over 50 years nobody have every learnt of the incidence.
Conflict(s): The narrator create a man vs. man conflict
Questions for discussion: In the modern society it is important to show some respect to others regardless of their positions, and avoid insulting others.
Likes: the narrator seem to be reflecting and regretting his actions and, the video mkes the story more clear and easy to understand.
Dislikes: the killing of Fortunato 50 years ago.
