Negotiation And Conflict Resolution

Objective: Compare and contrast concepts and theories in communication-based negotiation and conflict resolution.

Introduction: This lesson examines how to effectively manage conflict to support a productive workplace. There are many different types of conflict that occur in an organization. This essay gives you an opportunity to apply what you have learned in this lesson by examining and describing the strategies for managing different types of conflict.

Deliverables: The essay for this lesson is required to be a minimum of 750 words that clearly demonstrate your understanding of the activity. Essays should have a clear introduction, thesis statement and conclusion, written in APA format (APAstyle.org). A minimum of three sources must be cited in-text and in the Reference list.

Activity Scenario:

•Think of a conflict you’ve experienced, or that you observed among others, that you believe was resolved in a positive manner.

•Next, think of a conflict example you’ve had, or observed, that was not positively resolved.  (Please note that this activity is based on Discussion Question 1 on page 12 in Griffith, Conflict Survival Kit: Tools for Resolving Conflict at Work, Pearson eText, 2/e

Complete the following steps:

Step 1: Read the following questions and use what you have learned about this lesson’s objective to summarize your responses.

•What was the difference between these two scenarios? Examine the principles of power and conflict in each situation. Describe the nature and types of conflict in each situation.

•Compare and contrast the characteristics that led to a positive resolution in one situation and a negative or no resolution in the other situation.

•Based on your analysis of the two situations, what strategies for conflict management do you think were most effective and why?
