For the practice assignment, students will write an example paragraph detailing how an item they have purchased speaks about who they are as a person.
Instructions
Students should identify an important or small purchase that reveals something about their individual likes, dislikes or lifestyle. After selecting a topic for the paragraph, consider the reasons for the purchase. Use the following questions as a guide for planning and writing the paragraph.

- Why was it purchased?
- Who can enjoy the purchase?
- When was it purchased?
- How was it purchased?
- What examples support the thesis statement?
The practice paragraph should demonstrate good structure through the use of a topic sentence, several coherent supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. Refer to Section W-4b, Developing Paragraphs, particularly the section on Using Examples, in The Little Seagull Handbook.
