1. Consider your daily interaction with technology, including your phone, PC, and all of your activities using the Internet. Out of all of the technology used, how many databases do you interact with daily? Provide an example of a website or an application that you use regularly that uses a database.

Find an article no more than a year old that lists potential databases. From the list, were there any items that you did not realize were databases? Provide the link to the article you find.

3) INSTRUCTOR INSIGHTS: REQUIRED: Class, as we start this wonderful and intensive adventure concerning Society and Media,  I want to impress upon you that no matter our position in society we are all influenced by media and of course media takes many forms. Many of us depend on some type of social interaction everyday whether it involves home and family, work, school or brief encounters with strangers.  We read, we check for all sorts of information on our computers, ipads, smart phones, smart watches and other devices.  We stream, tweet, instagram, text and occasionally place a phone call. With so much technology at our fingertips and a constant overload of information, have we stopped to consider how information changes, interferes with or distorts our own realities? I have placed this video in as a starting point of how media changes and influences every aspect of our world whether the news is good, bad or indifferent.   Please review this video “Waiting on the world to change.”

I would like for you to post some of your own thoughts ways in which change can help a society or prove detrimental. Please post your comments to the Week 1 Discussion area.

While it is understood that the CIO should set the example for the IT organization, determine the top three things that the head of IT should be doing to improve the skills of the IT staff.

Having staff with the proper skill sets is immensely important to accomplishing corporate objectives. List and support three best practices in staffing future organizational needs.
