02 Jul Performance Essay On Tartuffe
You will write an essay (4 pages) discussing the actors’ work in the performance, check weekly outline for due dates. I strongly advise that you take notes during the show. You MUST staple your ticket stub to your essay as proof of attending the UCR show. If you fail to prove you attended the show your grade will be docked.
**IMPORTANT NOTE**
If this is a Shakespearean or any other classical play (like Moliere), it would be a very good idea to familiarize yourself with the story before going to see the performance. You have been warned! You having difficulty understanding the play is no excuse, as you should take proper measures to be familiar with the story beforehand.
In your papers you are to address:
– The acting: Start with Did you Believe It? Was the acting effective? Were there scenes/actors that stood out as strong or weak? How about specific moments that worked well or didn’t work? How and Why? You must use terminology from class such as GOTE, Beats, Given circumstances etc.
THEATRE 10 – Rubric for Performance Essays
Terms from class include but not limited to: “Given circumstances,” GOTE, “subtext,” “beats,” “being private in public,” the “moment before,” the “need to speak.” Essays that do not have the ticket stub attached will be marked down a third of a grade. Remember, what is below is a guideline. It is not always this exact of a science.
