Quantitative Research
Quantitative Research means a systematic investigation to evaluate the relationship between an independent and dependent variable. The main aim of this research methodology is to categorize views of the different people on a particular situation and develop a statistical model to identify various solutions (DJS Research Ltd., 2009). It is an experimental model of research methodology. This kind of research methodology is used to support the hypothesis, so that a researcher can reach at a definite conclusion (Polit, Beck & Hungler, 2001).
This research method helps the researchers to estimate the valuable relationship between various variables by using a sample of subjects. Various kinds of quantitative research method are the survey methodology, questionnaires, mass observation, personal and group interview, etc. (Domhoff, 2000). Quantitative research has some advantages and disadvantages, which are as follow:
Advantages:
Quantitative research is an outstanding approach to finalize the result of a particular problem. The models of this research are easy and the result is given by the researcher in the statistical form (Matveev, 2002). It is used by social science, political science, sociology, etc. and results declared by this research method are not based on probability and assumptions. The interpretation of this research method is also very easy because the results are written in the numerical form (Polit, Beck & Hungler, 2001).
Positivist are supported this research methodology because it is a scientific method. With the help of this research, the probabilities of going native are reduced because it is based on observations and does not comprise the subject (Schwartz, n.d.). This method is faster and consumes less time to conduct a research analysis. With the help of this method, the researcher can cover a wide population by using a sample and postal questionnaire (Matveev, 2002). The results of this method are more predictable and based on the data collected by a wider populations or sample size.
Disadvantages:
Although this method has many advantages but it is not free from disadvantages. This research method is not provided an in depth picture and detailed description of the problem, which is the main disadvantage of this method (Polit, Beck & Hungler, 2001). The researchers can be discriminate at the time of finalizing the result of the research because they know their sample size, which can be a cause of manipulating results. According to the Durkheim’s study of suicide, the quantitative research is not reliable for generate the final results (Scientific Method and Emile Durkheim’s Study of Suicide, n.d.).
The qualitative data and experiments fail to notice the attitude of the people, motivations, opinions, feeling, etc. of the participants (Schwartz, n.d.). It may be possible that the participants are not interested to become a part of research and give their response without thinking twice, which also points out the validity of the research in a negative way (Polit, Beck & Hungler, 2001).
Thus, Quantitative research is very useful for the researcher, but they should concentrate on the validity and reliability of the result.
