▪ Setting aside the political issues between North Korea and the United States, is there a reasonable way to respond to an anonymous threat found on the Internet somewhere? What elements would you require before canceling the film if you were CEO of Sony? If you were CEO of a chain of theaters?
· What access and data protection controls would you recommend Sony use to provide better security for unreleased digital films and e-mails?

I would most definitely take the side of Sony. Just off the case of civil society and its laws alone. If the laws are ignored and stomped upon we fall into discourse and that in itself should be reason enough to side with Sony on this issue. The hack was intending to cause harm at the expense of a supposed humiliation from a movie being released that parodies the country.
The more hackers get the response they want from companies the more the attacks will happen. The best way to handle this if it is possible is to do it as discreetly as possible so they do not receive the coverage that they are most likely looking for. Always let the law and its hacking experts deal with this situation if it’s possible. Sadly though since a lot of these crimes happen overseas it makes this case harder.
Some of the steps the company is taking is keeping unreleased movie reels off the grid as much as possible now. Keep them in a secured network that is not connected to outside networks requiring a physical person to visit the area to retrieve the reel of its digital copy.

The access and data protection controls that SONY should’ve implemented control of unauthorized ports or devices. Inventory any media control usage. More physical security controls such as bag checks can deter from stealing information. Input controls to include audit trails, encryption, and limited access to the systems. Intrusion Detection Systems, firewalls to protect against external access.
· If you were a hacker, what approach would you have used to break into Sony’s system?
As a hacker I would’ve probably used backdoor method to bypass the system security afterhours to access programs and files.
· What do you think the most important SETA elements would be to prevent future hacker attacks against Sony or other media firms?
More physical security measured controlled access to computers and networks. Terminal resource security software that erases the screen and signs off user during inactivity to prevent unauthorized access. Password protection, requirement of at least 13 characters, number letter and 2 special characters. And lastly PKI Public Key Infrastructure access or duo security access, password and code distribution.

The most reasonable way I think to respond to an anonymous online threat , first, do not panic. If it is an email, do not open and do not respond to it. Contact authorities immediately so the validity of the threat can be investigated.
If I am CEO of Sony, the nature of the hack would have first to be identified. Alert everyone, that is IT security. Since this is an incident involving people outside of the United States, I would seek council on foreign law as far as the legality of a person accused of a hacking crime. I then find out what was so malice about the film, have the debut postpone, and try to have the script rewritten. If it did not seem feasible at the time, dump the movie.
Being CEO of a chain of theaters, making sure that the film would not schedule to debut, and IT security staff be alerted.
Having my vice president to resign after two weeks into the investigation will seem suspicious and I would have her thoroughly checked out about her whereabouts and her computer confiscated to investigate. That is how they found out her comments in her emails…
