EECE 144 Lab Assignment 3 NAND/NOR Gate Equivalency

Pre-lab 1) Using Logisim software, implement the following logic function:

(Do not simplify or change the form of the algebraic expression) f(a,b,c,d,e) = a((b + d’) + ce’)

2) Generate the truth table (by hand), and use it to verify the operation of your circuit. 3) Convert the logic diagram of Step 1) to a circuit using only NAND gates. Add the resulting

circuit to your original Logisim circuit – use the same un-complemented and complemented (with an inverter) inputs, and a separate output pin.

4) Convert the logic schematic diagram of Step 1) to a circuit using only NOR gates. Add the resulting circuit to your original Logisim circuit – use the same un-complemented and complemented (with an inverter) inputs, and a separate output pin.

5) Download the datasheets of a NAND gate (74HCT00) and a NOR gate (74HC02). 6) Demonstrate the followings to your TA for sign-off.

Main Lab 7) Implement the circuit in Step 3) on your breadboard using NAND gates (74HCT00) and

inverters only. Verify its correct operation against the truth table. 8) Implement the circuit in Step 4) on your breadboard using NOR gates (74HCT02) and

inverters only. Verify its correct operation against the truth table. 9) Demonstrate the two working circuits to your Lab TA one by one, and have them signed off. Post-Lab Report: due in one week from the day of your lab a) Use the Lab Report Template as the basis for your lab report.

Your Logisim circuit simulation should be structured like this.

b) Include the following in your lab report: – The truth table for the circuit – The image captures from the Logisim circuits you implemented, showing all three forms of the circuit – A picture of your physical circuit
