Write a comprehensive summary of a current marketing article and discuss how the article illustrates ideas from Principles of Marketing. The objectives of the assignment are to give you exposure to marketing publications and "real life" marketing issues, help you develop your written summarization skills, allow you to display your analytical abilities, and have you demonstrate that you learned in the course.
Qualifying Articles: Articles should be from a business-trade publication and should be less than six months old. You are encouraged to choose an article that is of sufficient length to allow you to demonstrate learning in more than one area of the course.
You must use a marketing article. Acceptable content areas for articles include:
sales, advertising, retailing, product development, new products, pricing, distribution, marketing research, marketing management, consumer behavior, public relations, consumer promotion, and industrial marketing. Topics from outside marketing are not appropriate. General management or strategy articles do not let you demonstrate what you have learned in the class.
If you use an article from electronic sources, it must be from a legitimate "paper" publication. You may not use an article published only on a website. The Library has access to numerous acceptable publications.
Suggested periodicals include: Advertising Age, American Demographics, Business Week (Marketing Section), Chain Store Age Executive, Forbes (Marketing Related), Fortune (Marketing Related), Harvard Business Review (Marketing Related), Mediaweek, Public Relations Journal, and Sales and Marketing Management. If you use a printed article, please photo copy your article and turn the copy in to Dr. Martin. If you get your article from a legitimate online source, please include a hyperlink to the article in the references section of your paper. Do no put the hyperlink in your paper itself.
