The best ideas with improving an organization come form the people (customers, employees, students, etc) who are using the service. Is there something you wanted to change within CSUB or within an organization? You are to prepare a short internal proposal, recommending to a company (related to your career) or CSUB a specific change in procedure, technology, training, transportation, safety, personnel, or policy. Your proposal must convince your reader(s) that your plan will help them improve their business, save them money, enhance their social media, improve customer satisfaction, and/or make the environment safer.

Proposals are persuasive documents. You are convincing the reader that there is a problem or a need, you have a plan for addressing the need, and the benefits are worth the costs. Why does it matter? How and who will it help? Why is it worth the time, energy, resources, and/or money?

Make sure you provide an appropriate audience (college administrator, department manager, or supervisor) with specific evidence about the existence of the problem and your solution of it. In planning the document you need to analyze your audience, research your subject, and choose the best organizational pattern(s).

Possible topics include:

· providing more and safer parking or lighting

· instituting job sharing for mothers

· converting existing clients over to using new smart chip credit cards

· purchasing new office or laboratory equipment or software

· hiring more faculty, student workers, or office help

· allowing employees to telecommute

· changing the lighting or furniture in a student or company lounge or kitchen to make it more eco-friendly

· installing wireless routers and signal enhancers to boost the range of the company’s wireless network

· increasing the number of weekend, night, or online classes in your major

· adding more health-conscious offerings to the school or company cafeteria menu

· develop an app that lets customers order goods and services remotely

· improving the organization or a specific department’s website

Your proposal must include a:

1. Memo Template: Head your report using a memo template with To, From, Date, and Re clearly identified

2. Purpose: This section will provide overview or background information. You may need to provide history to understand the situation.

3. Problem: Articulate the need or problem that this proposal addressed. You will need to provide strong evidence of the need or problem (video, data, testimonials, etc.)

4. Solution: Propose a plan that is developed. May include: methods, procedures, and a timeline.

5. Conclusion: Identify the expected results and benefits. What are the costs and benefits gained? You may have to argue how the results outweighs the risks.

6. References: Check your sources and make sure they are credible.
