SECTION A

1 . For all questions in SECTION A ONLY , use the data contained in the file ‘data A – 201701 coursework – All staff UK Higher Institution’, which gives information on the academic staff in United Kingdom Higher Education providers by academic contract marker, activity standard occupational classification, mode of employment and sex 2013/14 to 2015/16.

It is important to highlight the two data, the procedures for analysing this data, and the representation of data in table and graphic form are essential to the process of identifying actions and initiatives for the academic staff.

Attempt all questions. This coursework constitutes 40% of total mark of the course

1i). Group the data for each year 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 into an appropriate frequency distribution. You will need to calculate the percentage change among the years. Present this data in table form and then produce line graphs/charts to show the data for each of full time, part-time academic staff and total figure. You may use the same type of graphs/charts for the years. Ensure that each method is fully labelled. (20 marks)

1ii). Comment on the methods and the results you have used in question i. (10 marks)

1iii). Calculate the descriptive statistics of the data for the years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16. Discuss the result and dispersion you would choose to best represent the data.

1iv). Highlight the key points for the non-academic staff in the data for the years.

SECTION B

2For all questions in SECTION B ONLY , use the data contained in the file ‘ data section B 201701 coursework – All staff in UK Higher Institution’, which gives information on the academic staff in United Kingdom Higher Education providers by academic contract marker, activity standard occupational classification, mode of employment and sex 2013/14 to 2015/16.

2 v). Using histogram and summary of the table for the data section B. (10 marks)

2 vi). conduct a descriptive statistics for the data, point out the key significant for the data.

2 vii). Plot a line graph for the academic staff in UK higher institution for the years and highlight the data. (10 marks)

2 viii). Provide a clear summary and conclusion from the both data (15 marks)

Submission Date:

The coursework must be handed in to the Student Service office in the ICP reception office and soft copy on Moodle. Students are strongly advised to keep a copy of their work. There are mark penalties for late hand in. (corruption of computer disks or USB/CDs is not an adequate excuse for late hand in, as work should be adequately backed up).

The work should be word processed 1 line spaced with (approx.) 2.5 cm margins12 front line all round. Print on one side of the paper only. Sheets should be fixed together by a staple in the top left-hand corner with your ICP number, the course and the name of the lecturer on the cover sheet. DO NOT PUT YOUR WORK IN A PLASTIC BINDERThere are no extra marks for excessive presentation; for example elaborate graphics on the cover sheet or colour printing

Your essay should:

· Not materially exceed 1,000 words (excluding charts, graphs, tables and reference)

· Be written in plain style, using subheadings and lists where appropriate.

· Be properly referenced acknowledging all the sources you have used, and only the sources you have used, in the body of the text and at the end in a section headed “References”

· Include evidence of locating and reading sources beyond the suggested initial reading

This is an Individual assignment. Students are reminded that the definition of plagiarism includes claiming another person’s work as your own; for example through inadequate references of sources of material used (including internet sources). Direct quotations must be enclosed in quotations marks and referenced. Using other people’s ideas requires a reference even if a direct quote is not included.

50 -59 As below plus:

· Detailed review and grasp of pertinent issues and a critical contextual overview of the literature.

· Thorough knowledge of theory and methods and uses this to underpin arguments and conclusions.

· Confidence in understanding and using literature

40 – 49 As below plus

· Demonstrates grasp of key concepts and an ability to develop and support an argument in a predominantly descriptive way with valid conclusions drawn from the research

· Familiarity with key literature which is dated and presented according to convention

· Logical and clear structure, well organised with good use of language and supporting material

0 – 39 FAIL

· Some knowledge of relevant concepts and literature but significant gaps in understanding and/or knowledge.

· Little attempts at evaluation, conclusions vague, ambiguous and not based on researched material. Limited or inappropriate research.

· Deficits in length, structure, presentation and/or prose.
