There are various types of sexual offenders. These include child sexual abusers, rapists,     female sexual offenders and pedophiles. There are various ways of dealing with these sexual offenders, each method chosen on the basis of the kind of sexual offence and his or her motivation to commit the offence.

Therapy is one of these methods. It is where a sexual offender joins a therapeutic group or a psychologist. This helps him or her understand what his problem is and how to handle him/her in instances when he is tempted to undertake in a sexual assault.

Regular mental programs are instituted as a treatment for these offenders. These are included as a term of their incarceration. They are able to acquire treatment while going through jail.

Biological therapies may be required. These include castration, reduction of hormones and a treatment to help them regulate their arousal and use of antidepressants.

A relapse prevention program can also be used. This is where a therapist is able to identify what makes an abuser do the sexual assault. He is thus taught how to control this which lowers the risk of recurrence.

These among many other methods help rehabilitate the offender and make him a better person who is in much more control of his actions. It lowers cases of sexual assault.
