Project Statement:
You are responsible as a safety manager for a high-rise commercial building project.
Your boss wants the project to proceed smoothly and aim to have zero injuries on the job-site. Before the project can start, you are asked to prepare a detailed hazard analysis of the job site (Please refer to the textbook chapter “Hazard analysis” for hazard analysis details). As per requirements spelled out by the contractor, you have to identify, evaluate and develop (IED) control strategies to eliminate/reduce the risk associated with the specific hazards during the following construction phases:
• site preparation,
• concrete foundations,
• steel erection,
• roof construction,
• mechanical and electrical systems, and
• finishes
You can add as many sub-activities as you think appropriate in these phases.
You must document IED strategies for each phase.
Deliverables:
1. Identifying all the potential hazards during each construction phase. You should prepare a table including project phases and associated hazards.
2. A. Prepare a detailed risk assessment represented as an assessment tree or table. An example of risk assessment tree is presented in the textbook, but colorful risk assessment tables (showing frequency and severity of potential hazards) are frequently used in the industry (you can search online for any such tables and use them in your report). The hazards and activities must be prioritized in descending order.
B. You should also add control strategies to address the risk identified in
2A.
3. Finish the document with concluding remarks by highlighting major risks and a “commitment to safety” statement.
