Question
Final Project (Individual): Innovative Healthcare Policy Solutions (50 points):
This individual-based innovative evidence-based project that is a depiction of a study/analysis will be presented to our class (your professor and classmates will evaluate your power point presentation that captures the essence of your project) and submitted via Blackboard at the end of the course (Sunday, April 29th by midnight). This study is intended to place you, vicariously, into a situation where you will be required to assess a given problem/situation/opportunity and determine and present a viable plan of action to pragmatically address the matter under consideration. A list of policy related topics for consideration and presentation is provided at the end of this syllabus; you are encouraged to select a topic within these headings that is of particular interest or experience for you. Note that some of the topics would be addressed at the international level, others at the federal level, and still others at the state level, firm level, or even department level. Choose your topic and governmental perspective with this in mind; recognizing the “level” and “scope” of the policy are basic parameters in policy formulation and implementation. The paper is required to be 15-20 pages in length (excluding the cover page, reference pages and graphics).
Be sure to reference the conceptual policymaking model(s) as you develop and present your project.
The PLOS model is a fairly simple and somewhat understated policy formulation model. A more prevalent model in Health Policy is the Longest model. Access and review the following PLOS model: http://journals.plos.org/plosmedicine/article?id=10.1371/journal.pmed.0020166. Because of its simplicity and straightforwardness, we will use the PLOS’ framework as the basic structure/section your policy topic papers. However you should/can also use any pieces/facets or flows of the Longest model to ensure you have fully considered any/all implications, considerations, and/or constraints pertaining to your policy implementation. The hybrid model that integrates PLOS and Longest is in the course documents section of Bb.
For the sake of continuity in grading and writing structure, I would like you to determine the policy idea (PLOS block1); to perform research (sourcing the evidence); to formulate the policy in detail (using the evidence); and to address considerations for introducing, “selling,” communicating, and implementing the policy (considering the capacity to implement). That means your project/paper will have three main sections but five pieces/headings: 1) introduction to topic; 2) sourcing the evidence or literature review on the topic; 3) using the evidence to formulate policy; 4) considerations in the implementation; and 5) a summary/conclusion.
In addition, your APA formatted paper will consist of a cover page, table of contents, abstract, reference page, appendices, etc.
Your table of contents will be required but not limited to the following example (not necessarily in this exact order):
