OVERVIEW
This first assignment tests your ability to apply documentation tools and techniques to a case while being able to suggest changes to improve the efficiency of the AIS to meet the information needs of the organisation’s management. The case is taken from the set text Romney and Steinbart (R&S) 11th ed.
The course objectives to be met by this assignment are:
1. demonstrate academic and professional literacy skills though comprehension and application of theories and concepts that are relevant to accounting information systems, contracting and agency relationships (Objective 1)
2. explore the way that both internal and external environmental factors impact upon business operation through accounting information systems (Objective 2)
3. apply information system management processes to major transaction processing cycles of general ledger/reporting, revenue and expenditure (part of Objective 3)
4. demonstrate teamwork skills by preparing and submitting a team project (Objective 4 if students complete this project as a team)
5. demonstrate written communication skills by preparing and submitting two project reports (part of Objective 5)
Before you attempt to start this assignment, you need to have read and understood the concepts and techniques covered in R&S text Chapters 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 14,and 18. You need to have a solid understanding of financial accounting and how to process transaction and produce reports. Once you have completed the Students Activities set for the chapters mentioned, you should have sufficient knowledge and skills to complete this assignment successfully.
This assignment also tests your research skills by applying what skills you have gained in your degree to date to suggest improvements. This task also stretches your scope of information beyond the set text and readings to the latest developments in information systems. Thus references cited to justify your recommendations will be no older than 2005, as IS/IT area is in constant change.
