Students will conduct research covering an SCM topic of their choice. This will be a group assignment. No historical or existing case study projects. Research and analysis should be original. All projects will be created in Microsoft Powerpoint and should be 15 slides in length – no longer, no shorter. All projects should address the following topics:

• Discuss the issue background

• Examine options for dealing with the issue

• Examine advantages/disadvantages for each option

• Provide recommendations and support those recommendations

Project Format

Please adhere to the following format criteria for the team project:

1. Create project in Microsoft PowerPoint

2. Title page with team name, product name, student names, course title and date

3. Do not jam too much information onto each slide, but make sure the critical items and details are included. The slide should be readable on the presentation screen to your audience. A person reviewing later should be able to understand the main points of the presentation with just the deck itself. The key here is to be concise – but complete. What is the most important information to include on each slide?

4. Use color, graphics and artwork as appropriate

This paper would involve a market and operations analysis of a potential start-up logistics business, and development of an initial business plan that covers basic operations and marketing. Examples of such entrepreneurial opportunities might involve the following subjects:

• Small truckload carrier businesses

• Same-day-delivery services for documents, packages or heavier freight

• Air charter freight businesses

• Truckload brokerage operations

• Internet-based or direct-for-sale logistics-related software applications

• Small public warehouse operations

• Import logistics support facilities/operating centers

• Repackaging centers

• Foreign trade-zone operations

• Customs brokerage businesses

• Specialized wholesaler businesses

• Sequencing centers

• Export packaging facilities

I am interested in the application of your research and supporting data in a live setting. Do not provide a general overview of a topic. I am looking for supporting data, detailed analysis, and detailed recommendations.
