Communication in the classroom is different in other contexts because you want to try to come off more scholarly. When you have verbal communication with friends or someone you are comfortable with you may find yourself using slang or you wouldn’t have to clarify what you are trying to say they will get it because your friends have a better understanding on how you communicate. When using written communication with your friends you may use GIF’s or even Emoij’s that you wouldn’t use in a essay for class. When you are taking a online class some of the nonverbal cues you may see in an online class can include the punctuation of something that is written . It may come off as more exciting if the statement ends in an exclamation mark then with a period at the end. Another example is using capital letters if you write a word or statement using all capital letters it may come off as you yelling instead of just communicating. Or even not responding to someone’s comment can come off as you ignoring them. Nonverbal cues are used even when you’re not face to face with those you are communicating with. With nonverbal cues being harder to pick up on with an online form you really have to be conscious of what you type and how it may be portrayed.

My communication is different in the classroom than in other contexts because we are in an academic setting. When communicating in other contexts I tend to be somewhat lacks and may not always be clear in what I’m trying to communicate. I can also be very sarcastic, playful and use numerous abbreviations. In an online classroom setting I must be clear so everyone can understand my writing. Grammar plays an important role in order to be understood and will help communicate clearly. Since this is an online class I believe it could be difficult and lack nonverbal cues and hints that are provided in a face-to-face conversation. But, non-verbal function could be express by our videos. The videos would allow us to understand and decipher the different communication symbols that are being express.

So, as I was searching the web for what was most effective for me, I came to these that stood out, 1. Read Out Loud 2. Focus on What I know 3. Skimming 4. Scanning 5. Looking at the Key Words. I have a hard time reading long lengths of words and paragraphs, I get bored and distracted. So, as I was looking through this and going over the contents of the Module, I saw the SQ3R, which is Survey, Questions, Read, Recite, and Review, was something I think would work great for me. I tend to forget a lot when I read too much, so using this method could help me a great deal. Most important for me is scanning the chapter and using the key words, and I am going to put more of that into effect in my studying and reading. I have done this so many times I will look at how the chapters and see that its like 50 pages long and get discouraged as there is like 3 chapters I will have to read and think “I can’t do this all in one night.” So, looking over this I feel this will help me in my reading and studying.
Effective Reading Strategies

I find myself at times getting frustrated because I do not understand reading material, and have to re read quit a few times. However after searching the web for effective reading strategies, I found my top five favorite: skimming, keyword spotting, SQ3R, reading aloud, and annotating the text. The reading skill I plan to implement to improve my reading skills is survey, question, read, recite and review (SQ3R). This will allow me to skim for keywords, make questions such as: what the main point is, where is the evidence, etc (Research and Reading, 2018). I will use this strategy to read each section to find the answer to my questions made, annotate and highlight as I read aloud and lastly piece it all together for a better understanding of the text. The SQ3R is valuable to enhancing my reading effectiveness in which I will implement from here on.

Social Responsibility importance in the global economy

Corporate social responsibility is extremely important and is can be the worlds major influencer. Large corporations can either be the largest producers or consumers of products, therefore may rely on them to help keep the earth clean and creating a better world. For example McDonald has been implementing multiple strategies to tackle their global social responsibly to the environment. McDonalds partnered in 1989 with the Environmental Defense where they have made significant packaging changes to help with recycling, which have eventually been adopted by the fast food industry. They have also been working on reducing the use of animal antibiotics by asking their poultry suppliers to stop the use of the antibiotic fluoroquinolones.
By McDonalds being a major global company, they recognize the part they play in the global market and how they can make a difference in the world. They have taken on the go-green responsibility to help to try reducing global warming with using recycled products. Also by reducing the use of antibiotics they understand the health crisis of the over-use of antibiotics is contributing to creating super bugs (bacteria) that are becoming more resistant to our current antibiotics.
McDonalds has also taken on the importance of social responsibility in philanthropy by creating and funding the Ronald McDonald House. With the Ronald McDonald House charity they have created an organization that helps to house families of sick children in the hospital with long hospital stays. McDonalds understand the importance of corporate social responsibility and with their large influence has help to make an improvement towards a better world.

I do believe that corporations actions are always being closely monitored by various watchdog agencies that want to keep them accountable for their behavior. Some corporations are not responsible when it comes to issues such as the pollution they cause for example. At the end of the day, I believe that many corporations are eager to do their best at being socially responsible, just because they know it’s the right thing to do, plus it will save them money in the long run.
