Research paper (see grading rubric; includes title page, abstract, literature review, method section, results section, discussion section, and reference section): The paper must be written in APA style, must observe all rules of proper grammar, and must be typed and double-spaced. Papers should include at least 10 pages of text (no more than 12) in 12-point Times New Roman font plus references and cover page (which are not counted as part of the 10 page minimum). Research articles cited in the papers must be available to the instructor. Papers must include 10 references, with a minimum of 7 being from peer reviewed scientific journals. Textbooks do not count as part of the 10 required references (though if you use these, you must cite them). Wikipedia and other encyclopedias are not appropriate references for a research paper of this level, and points will be deducted if they are used as references. An initial draft of the paper will be reviewed by the instructor or teaching assistant, and students will be provided with feedback. Additionally students will be provided with feedback through two peer reviews and at least one meeting with a writing tutor/teaching assistant.

**Any drafts or papers that are turned in with 3 or more major grammatical errors (sentence fragment, fused sentence, comma splice, subject/verb agreement error, apostrophe error, or noun/pronoun agreement error) will be given back to the student for revision, and that student’s possible grade will be lowered by one letter grade. The instructor will stop reading the paper after the 3rd major grammatical error and will not provide a grade. The student must review the paper and turn it back in within 48 hours; then it will be graded. Each time the paper is returned due to 3 or more grammatical errors, the possible grade will be lowered by 1 letter grade.

2. One meeting with teaching assistant/lab instructor. Students must have at least 4 pages of text written before scheduling a meeting with the teaching assistant. The four pages of text plus the reference list (with at least 5 references) must be brought to the meeting with the writing tutor along with4 written questions or areas of concern to be discussed in the meeting. Points will be deducted if any of these 3 things is not brought to the meeting with the teaching assistant.
