COMPARISON AND CONTRASTING TWO HOTELS IN TERMS OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM CONCEPTS
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The essay creates a comparison between the two hotels where they have different structure of growth and the resources. These things are provided at eth regular and a little bit higher process so the people get the peaceful visit in the new place where they have no idea where and how to get these things. The resources are provided to the people at different rates and the sustainability is checked to provide comfort to the people coming around. The hotels attract a large number of tourism to the country from which a huge amount of foreign exchange is earned. The hotels earn more recognition through the provision of services and the sustainable growth. Sustainable tourism meant to provide the basic structure and fulfill the needs of the people through presenting more opportunities to explore and rest in the valuable places. Socio economic needs of the tourist are met and the concept of the sustainable tourism could be achieved properly. Tourism is considered to be an asset to the country and the hotels are the facilitators to this. It provides a link between the place and the living facility with a number of services as we are going to discuss in the paper that is related to the provision of the basic needs such as water community and the waste management in these hotels (Parket and Eilbirt, 1975).
1.2 HOTEL A: INSPIRA SANTA MARTA, PORTUGAL
The hotel is almost at few minutes’ drive form the Avenida da Liberdade having a charming look with provision of luxury and comfort. The hotel has a strict environmental sustainable policy in relation with the social and environmental sustainability’s. These environmental policies are based on the concept provided by Feng-Shui. Other three features are discussed according to these principles are here under. Hotel has provided different measures to reduce the risk to the environment.
a. Water
Old Chinese believe to five elements such as air, water, metal, wood and the earth contributes to the sustainable life. These elements are the building blocks and should be preserved accordingly to avoid wastage and more productivity could be achieved. The earth is selected where the water could be provided easily and the wasted could be used. A black water recycling system is installed which is used to treat the sewage on site. The recycled water is provided for toilet flushing and the pure water that is excess to the need of the hotel is provided to the communities around as well as to the parks and gardens in the area (Anderson, 1973).
b. Community
In the community services an eco-friendly business center is offered where the corporate meetings are held. These are awarded under the green meetings where the strict environmental policies are followed. Meeting rooms, auditoriums are decorated with the innovative green meeting concepts. Hotel has adopted a policy of two rooms to reduce the mobility and follow the unity concept between the heaven and human provided by Feng-Shui (Anderson, 1973).
c. Waste Management
The waste management feature provided the basis of the environmental suitability with respect to creating the social responsibility. The waste material such as the plastic from disposable kitchen and other items from the baths and rooms is used to recycle and make the PVC and VOCs. The waste heat is used to the run the cooling towers as the provision of bio energy that reduces the consumption of electricity and reduces the risk of legionnaire’s disease. The valuable use for the waste has increased the amount of the sustainable growth of the hotel (Anderson and Anderson, 1973).
1.3 HOTEL B: LONDON HEATHROW MARRIOT
The London Heathrow Marriot establishes a link between the business and the leisure asked by them. it has always look to provide the sustainable features to save energy, reduction of water wastage and the elimination of land fill waste through the leading management services. The hotel is half mile away from the airport having a range of luxury apartments, meeting rooms and the soundproof windows. For the community services the families are also provided with the roof top bedding facility to enjoy a garden with fresh air. The hotel has won the gold award from the green tourism for London scheme. The whole team for the hotel is involved in the construction of sustainable resources to the hotel management system providing a number of sustainable features (Stoessel, 2010).
a. Water
The hotel used to use the waste water through using a simple tact of hotel led initiative where the plastic bottles from the rooms are collected recycled. Another thing to save water is the installation of the flow regulation product Grohe on the hotel. With this simple technique almost three liters of water is saved per minute. In this way water is saved and supplied with flow to the hotel.
b. Community
In the term of community services the spa and the roof top gardens are provided to make the people feel close to nature. It captures the sunshine and fills the human with energy and the garden helps to pose the better feeling and happiness among them. Community services are the land mark of the hotel and the people enjoy the gardens and the sunshine to their rooms along with the safety and purity.
c. Waste Management
With the development in the waste management system the electronic car charging are provided to reduce the heat waste to zero carbon worlds by the hotel. These also conserve the natural resources. A waste from the kitchen is recycled at a rate of 100 percent. In London the Marriott has a zero rate of waste to land fill. A conventional recycling organic waste measure is used to handle the waste (Welford, Ytterhus and Eligh, 1999).
1.4 COMPLEXITY OF ISSUE
a. Price
The prices of the hotels are increasing day by day and some of eth hotel cover the cost of sustainable system in these prices. Process are charged to cover the expenses and according to the facilities provided by them. Both of the hotels in the report recover most of their cost from the hotel waste management as described above that the hotel waste is mostly recycles and used to work as fuel such as bio gas production and running the generators. The cost cover all the charges but in this case the hotels cover most of their cost from recycling. These are much affordable than other in the competitive market. The market prices of the rare sustainable feature as discussed above that are provided by these hotels have created fluctuations in prices over a period of time due to the availability and the competitiveness. Both the hotels have high prices as compared to the other but the facilities provided are also rare (World Tourism Organization, 2002). The results show that the prices are high but at the same time they help to reduce the cost and the time of the customer and create a healthy environment for them. The suitable features to create a comparison between these hotels are water, waste management and the community services provided.
b. Time
It saves cost and time as in case of the parking lodges, community halls, spas, meeting services and the roof top gardens to relax. Marriot provides its client with the electric car charge facility in the parking which saved the energy and fuel as well as the time of the customer to go and search for the places. Meeting halls are provided to structure the business as well as community meetings that save cost and time to look for any other place.
1.4 CONCLUSION
The hotel management of both the hotels is providing best facilities to cope with the waste and the conservation of natural resources. Two hotels are chosen for creating a comparison in order to contrast the sustainable features of the hotel tourism. These hotels are used to describe the sustainable feature and a comparison is to be made among their working that how these hotels worked with the waste and the water management. In the blue mountain areas each of the village has the different cultural values and provided the feature of peace and harmony among them. It is a relaxing place filled with energy and the diversified nature having unique features. The survey from the blue mountain areas has provided the results that more than fifty percent of the people are from the upper mountain areas. The people are provided and they are more interested to know the sustainable features. People are more prone to apply these features in the daily life. They consider the sustainable environment as the safety of future generations. The survey report showed that the people were more interested to engage these measures to their homes as well to save the natural resources and their conservation. It saved their time, cost, energy consumption, reduction in landfills and has increased the use of sunlight, use of green bags to super stores, increased fuel efficiency; purify water and the efficient use of resources.
