RULES TO FOLLOW: DESCRIBE A SPEECH OR PRESENTATION WHERE SPEAKER VOLUME WAS

RULES TO FOLLOW:

Describe a speech or presentation where speaker volume was a problem (exclude examples of malfunctioning PA systems). How did this experience affect your bias concerning the topic and speaker? You may draw on real-life experiences or create a hypothetical scenario to complete this discussion.

Remember that your discussion response must include the following:

A reflection on the concept we are discussing. Give us a summary of things you learned about this concept from your assigned chapter readings.
A thorough example/discussion to support your reflection.
A final statement that tells us what you take away from this week’s lesson.
Properly formatted in-text citations and references.
Strong grammar, spelling, and mechanics.
In total your discussion should be at least 250 words.

ANSWER TO THIS CLASSMATE ABOUT HIS WRITING:

The speaker’s volume during a speech is very important to the audience’s perception of the information. If you speak to loud or to soft the audience will have a hard time understanding and hearing what you are trying to say. For example, imagine you are in the school auditorium listening to the class president give a speech during graduation. He is speaking loud, fast and keeps pausing using the word um. All of these factors make it hard to understand what he is saying or even concentrate on the message he is trying to give. Our book tells us that you should look around the room when giving your speech to see the audience reactions. If they look bored, confused or seem to be leaning forwards in their chairs then they are having a hard time understanding you. You must adjust your voice so that the audience can hear and understand you. If you pause to much it will cause the audience to lose concentration. If Obama was giving a speech on national television using long pauses, fillers such as um and using poor articulation he would lose our attention. We would not take the speech seriously due to the presentation of the speech. We learned through our readings that in order to give a good speech we must adapt our voices to the size of the audience and the level of background noise. We must also use proper dialect, pronunciation, articulation and pauses in order to keep the audiences concentration and understanding of the speech.

ANSWER TO THIS CLASSMATE ABOUT HIS WRITING:

When using visual aids in a speech they should be used carefully, because there is always something that could go wrong. Say for instance, you are giving a speech to an audience of your peers, and you have decided to use visual aids. There are several things that can go wrong with the visual aids that you choose to use. First of all, lots of planning and know-how goes into using them properly. You should also be careful to keep visual aids simple and clear. For example, when using video you can run into several problems. You have to make sure that the video is not too long. It should be organized into about a 30 second video. It has to be organized to cue and start at the proper time. It has to be fixed and fine-tuned, so that it goes together properly and smoothly with your speech. Finally, be careful and look out for low quality pictures. low-resolution video can look good on a computer, but when played on a projector it is blurry and distorted. These are just a few reasons why it is very important to use visual aids carefully. If not used correctly, they can distract your audience away from the message, even if you put a lot of work and effort into research. But if used correctly, visual aid can be an addition to you message, and help to drive home your ideas. Remember, in order to benefit from visual aids planning is important, and they must also be clear, simple, and done well.
