Final Project Project In this final project, teams of three students will design a 4-bit carry look-ahead adder using Manchester carry chain. The two 4-bit inputs and one 5-bit output need to use edge-triggered registers. Schedule Project demonstration: April 30 Final project report: May 9 Architecture The architecture of the project should include identification of functional blocks and a more clear definition of roles for the team members. The architecture report should include a diagram detailing the main functional blocks in the design. You should also include brief descriptions of each functional block as well as any special design requirements (e.g., timing requirements for edge-triggered registers) for that particular block. Logic Design The logic design will take your architectural specification and translate it to logic specification. You can identify reusable components at this point. For example, you may have a full-adder that is reused several times. You should hand in logic diagrams or functions for each of the functional blocks defined in the architecture document. Include an estimate of the number of transistors and the sizes required to implement this logic design. Layout Design Layout should match your logic design. Performance measurements such as maximum speed, setup time, hold time, and/or power consumption should be obtained from simulations. The layout is the most time consuming part of this project. So get started on this as soon as possible. It may be worthwhile to layout some parts of the project even before the logic design is done. Final Project Report The final report should include the architecture document, the logic design, the final layout, and simulation results.
