26 Jun The difference in the pros and cons of energy
uestion
The difference in the pros and cons of energy use, energy conversions and energy efficiency will be shown in
each segment towards each energy types in details.
Fossil Fuel is considered to have oil, natural gas and coal. Fossil fuel is produced electricity; coal is a
non-renewable resource that is fast depleting. The oil consumption decreased during the nineties due to
improved energy efficiency, as well as a change to other fuel such as natural gas and stricter environment
restrictions. The pros for oil are considered easy to handle, store and transport. Its easier to extract from
the ground than coal and more cost effective to transport. As suppose the cons has the burning of oil for
energy production purposes, such as coal, results in the emission of carbon gases into atmosphere. Drilling
may affect the ocean and terrestrial habitats. Threat of oil spills exists.
Natural gas has gained increasing significance in South Africa and Nambia. It consists primarily of methane
and is essentially the remains of the decompositions of plants, animals and microorganisms that existed
millions of years ago. The pros consist of a clean and safe fossil fuel. The products of its combustion such
as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides are said to be almost half that of coal use.
However, using natural gas can reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change,
smog over cities and poor air quality. The cons states numerous environmental impacts arise from gas
exploration. Dangers include explosions and oil spills. In add ocean habits can be disturbed. Natural gas is
still a non-renewable resource.
The coal is also non-renewable resource that is fast depleting of fossil fuels releases various gases
that are hazardous to the environment and the atmosphere. The combustion gives off carbon dioxide (CO2),
which is the main greenhouse gas that is linked with global warming, nitrogen oxide NOx), and mercury that
pollutes the air and water. The power plant for pros is one of the cheapest means of electricity production
for many countries, such as over in South Africa that has abundant coal reserves. Coal cons are
governments of the world are establishing various environmental laws and policies that are targeting the
prevention of the impacts of burning fossil fuels.
Wind power is one of the fastest growing sources of renewable energy sources around the world.
Wind power collects the winds kinetic energy. Windmills work because they slow down the speed of the
wind.(ran out of words to finish)
The pros determine wind turbines has a low impact on the environment, they produce only low
frequency noise. It is safe and produces no by products. The turbines do not disturb livestock on farm and
the land can to be used grazing and crop production. At times, the cons of the wind would consider the wind
not blowing; other types of power plant must be used to generate electricity. There is an impact on the land
during construction. Capital costs are high
All through life we ask ourselves which way to get energy. Well lets look at the pros and
cons of some ways. Since there can be a numerous thing for the pros and cons, I am only using
the top three.
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 has two provisions that I would like to talk about. The
first is Section 701 Federal Fleet Dual-Fuel Vehicles: Fuel Use Requirements and Section 706
Joint Flexible Fuel/Hybrid Vehicle Commercialization Initiative. These provisions talk about the
different fuels which are needed to operate certain vehicles since the car industries have been
creating the newer fuel efficient vehicles.
Section 701
This section clearly states that federal fleets are required to use the alternative fuels in the
dual-fuel vehicles unless the DOE (Department of Energy) determines that a particular agency
qualifies for a waiver. It is not easy getting a waiver from the DOE. The Department of Energy
grounds for this waiver include the lack of the alternative fuel available and the cost restrictions
which play a role as well.
Section 706
In this section it is a provision about the hybrid vehicles. This provision directs the DOE
to establish research programs to advance all commercialization of hybrid flex-fuel vehicles or
plug-in hybrid flex-fuel vehicles. EP Act 2005 requires vehicles to achieve at least 250 miles per
petroleum gallon. A total of $40 million is authorized for the program ($3 million in 2006, $7
million in 2007, $10 million in 2008, and $20 million in 2009)
Assignment Description
You will prepare an APA-style research paper to discuss energy topics, as follows:
In your own words, describe the laws of thermodynamics.
Explain how these scientific laws apply to energy use, energy conversions, and the need for
energy efficiency.
Describe the pros and cons of the following energy types, writing 1 paragraph for each:
o
o
Nuclear energy
o
Solar energy
o
Wind power
o
Water (hydro) power
o
Fossil fuel: Oil, natural gas, and coal
Bioconversion (biofuel)
Research and describe 2 provisions of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
o
Describe each provision, and provide your opinion about how each provision helps
the United States meet energy use goals.
o
3-page, APA-style research paper
For assistance with your assignment, please use your text, Web resources, and all course
material
Please assist me with getting a small abstract together for this paper of ENERGY. I am also stuck
completing a little of my writing on WIND. Please see the draft attachment.
I couldnt find the best source to write a small paragraph on to discuss WATER and BIOFUEL.
Please make sure the two provided provision of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 is not repeat or plagiarized.
Overall, please make sure that the wording is not copied elsewhere followed by references. If there is, Ill
notify you to make change. This will be at least 3 pages after double-spacing quoting with the in-text cited
