Do you have a particular song or movie that you just really love? There are a lot of theories about how the shooting was somewhat inspired or influenced by the movie, The Matrix. There are a lot of reasons people use to support their theories, like, the killers were wearing the same jackets that were worn in the movie. They were using the same guns; they were acting out scenes from the movie. Also, the singer, Marilyn Manson, who is a kind of dark, Goth singer, has been targeted as an influence in the shooting. Considering that the killers listened to his music and others things like it.
Movies and music lyrics, especially nowadays, promotes violence and also tolerance to violence. Bands like, Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath, project and image of “horror” and violence in their shows and their songs. For example, the band Alice Cooper, every night during his shows, would “execute” himself using a guillotine. Rigged of course. There are obviously ways to do that. But that can still be very traumatizing experience for some people. Another example, Black Sabbath, has a song about suicide. And I dont know this for sure, but I wouldnt be surprised is somewhere, some kind of depressed kid committed suicide as a result of that song. Because of all these contributing factors, people dont react to violence in the world because they see and hear it so much in the media. Excessive exposure makes you more tolerant. The more youre exposed to the violence and the negative things in the media, the more you think its okay when you see it for real. Now some people may argue differently and say that censoring the media is bad idea because they think people should be able to choose what they want to watch or listen to, but when youre making the decision to expose yourself to things that could instill the idea of bringing harm to not only yourself, but to other people, I think you kind of forfeit you right to make those decisions for yourself…
