Topic 1: Bone Fractures
BONE FRACTURES: There are about 205 bones in the human body. Thank goodness we do not have to name them all! You can use the labelled skeleton diagram in your study guide for quick reference. NUMBERING FINGERS AND TOES: Please note the numbering system for the metacarpals of the hand as shown in the diagrams below. Please give the appropriate bone number if you use a hand or foot fracture. Hand: In the hand the thumb and it’s associated metacarpal are #1 and the numbers increase to the opposite side of the hand where the baby finger and its associated metacarpal are #5. Foot: In the foot, the big toe and the associated metatarsal are #1 and so on to…. the baby toe and it’s associated metatarsal which are #5
BONE FRACTURE: Select a bone and a fracture not already selected by another student. Put the BONE and FRACTURE type into your thread title. In common terms, describe (1) bone location (Where on the bone does the fracture occur?) (2) Name and then describe the fracture. (3) Give one possible cause. (3) Add an image of the bone with the fracture type and give the web address for the image.
TO ADD AN IMAGE: Go to any search engine (BING, GOOGLE….) and type in the muscle name and click on IMAGES. Scan through the images that appear and click on one that looks appropriate. You may have to click on the image twice to finally get the image alone with a WHITE background screen. Right click to show a menu and select COPY. After you enter the posting site, click PASTE. Be aware that if the image is very large it may take a while to load and be too big for the posting box. You can click on the image and little boxes will appear in each corner. Move the cursor over one of the boxes and hold the left mouse button down to drag the image and decrease the size to nicely fit the posting box. Go back to the image online and copy and paste the web address above or below your image.
