Now that you have read the series of articles on credit card debt among college students, your assignment is to write an essay in which you explain the nature of this problem and the issues surrounding it.
Assume that your readers are people much like yourself before you read these articles. They have used credit cards and may have experienced various levels of debt at some point in their lives, but they may not have paid the kind of attention to the issue that you have done in your reading of the assigned articles. They will rely on your essay for the information that will allow them to better understand the full extent of the problem. In your essay, you might consider some of the following questions: What background information is useful for understanding this issue? How severe or widespread is credit card debt among college students? What are some of the conditions that may lead to excessive credit card debt? How can credit card debt affect the lives of young adults? And what kinds of things can be done to address the issue?
The information you provide to your readers should be drawn primarily from the set of articles. However, you might also include in your essay information that is directly related to any personal experience you or people you know have had with credit cards or with managing debt.
When you summarize information or directly quote it, be certain to accurately identify the source of the information and to include appropriate parenthetical documentation. You may use MLA, APA, Chicago Manual of Style, or CBE documentation style. Just be consistent.
Your completed essay should be 1200 to 1500 words.
