What do you see as the top three challenges facing you in deciding to return to school? Provide four strategies for each challenge that will help make your transition smoother.
Fist is my school plus responsibilities. I have two kids and its not easy to have to been dropping off them to school specially that they are in different school. Then after I go work then pick them back up and have to come home and make dinner and help them with homework plus mine. What make this transition to run smoother is that I don’t pay it mind and just keep going with faith because if I do think about it I will run crazy. But Im Bless to wake up every day with a smile on my face.
My new job at the UM hospital. Well I had to drop some class due to the new job at the UM. They want me to have my BSN but then they don’t accommodate for school. So what I did to make this transition run smoother I had to drop my classes and take only this class online.
My third challenge was the cost. I do not have financial aid and I’m a single mom of two. Is not easy when I have to taking out of my pocket to pay for my school when I have all other bills to pay: car, rent, light and all the rest. My strategies that make my transition to run smoother is that I just keep a positive thinking and say I could do this and Im not only doing it for me but also for my kids and they pt I will be taking care of.

Well my reason for returning back to school is because most if not all the hospital is asking for the BSN. Also I want to get more knowledge and expertise in the medical feel to be able to assist the community we live in.
3 Many experts recommend choosing a mentor who has successfully transitioned from one nursing role to another to provide support for the nurse returning to school. Have you thought of asking someone to be your mentor? What should you consider in choosing a mentor? What is the purpose of a mentor?
I never thought of asking someone to become my mentor but I do think is a good idea because I always like to ask question to see what exactly I would like to become after getting my BSN and Master degree. I always ask my professor for they professional opinion and also nurses that have years working in the hospital environment. The purpose of a mentor is to guide someone to in the right path of what they will like to become. Mentor is to help someone to develop towards they goal and objectives.
First of all before choosing a mentor for me I will consider if that person is a rule model meaning that the person is in the feel I’m in and that he or she could understand where I want to go or what I want to be. Second I would like my mentor to be honest to me. Third I would not only want to have one mentor because it is always good to see other opinions. Thats what I think.
4 Some nurses return to school after several years of being away from a formal education situation. Other nurses have recent formal education experience but may not have used good study habits. List three or four study habits that you feel are the most important, discuss why they are important, and identify your plan for adopting those habits.
I study by myself because I cant focus when in group but after reading my material I will call or text like five of my friend then we would have a discussion about they understanding and mind.
I always plan when Im going to study which is when my kids are sleeping because when they are up I cant focus because they want my attention at every minute which I do understand.
I try not to cram my head with too much material because if I do I would not remember what I have study. I also make my notes which I think is important and I go over them.
4. My other study habit is that I’m from Nicaragua and I use to study in Spanish in my country which was a little difficult for me sometimes to remember some material in Ingles so I read it in Spanish which did work out for me.
5. When returning to school, students will often feel some stress. It’s important to identify what support and assistance are available to you. Discuss symptoms of stress. What resources are available to help you? Identify those resources,which may be of help with finances, hands-on (e.g., assistance with household duties), childcare, or studying. Discuss strategies for asking for help from others.
Symptoms of stress: Headaches, frequent cold and infection, loss of sexual desire, pain of any kind, sleep problem, eat. Stress is the body responds to any kind of threat or demand. During school and over the years I have learn that there is a lot of resources in our community to help with finances , childcare and household. For instant we have the Head start program that the government provide for childcare that is free, food stamp assistant and even assistant with cash and medicaid insurance but you need to be qualify. The strategies I use to ask for help is asking any one if they have info where I could get help with sorting stuff even when I go to my kids appointments I would ask them if they know where I could get help with sorting issues.
