26 Jul WHAT IS THE PROBLEM OR ISSUE?WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW?
Evidence-based management (EbM) is a theory used by organizations to use current research and data to make the best decisions. The EbM model was established to help organizations find the most methodical way to make informed and valid decisions. There model as five steps:Define objectives and information needs. In this step, questions and issues need to be identified and laid out in order to prepare to find the right information to make an informed decision. Questions that need to be answered during this step include the following:What is the problem or issue? What do we need to know? What are the most important questions that need to be answered?Collect the right information. This step focuses on finding information that focuses on addressing the questions posed in the first step. Questions that need to be answered during the second step include the following:Where do I find the information needed? What data do I need to meet our needs?Analyze the data and gain insights. Once all of the data is gathered, it is time to analyze and interpret it. This can be done through synthesizing the information. The following questions can be answered in this stage:What is the information telling us?How can I use this information and apply it to my issue? What insights or ideas came to mind by gathering and reading the information?Present and communicate the information. This step involves informing the organization what you found within your research. Questions to be answered here include the following:How do I best present this information? How can I organize the information into a presentable format?Make evidence-based decisions. Information has been gathered and presented. Now it is time to make the best decisions for the organization based on the research gathered. The questions to be answered here are:What are the best decisions to make for the organization? Why are these the best decisions? What evidence supports them? For your course project, you will use the steps of the EbM model to make a decision about a situation or issue that is occurring in your health-based organization. You will keep the project throughout several units:Unit 4: In this unit, you will follow Step 1 of the model. You will identify a health care administration or managerial issue or concern that needs to be addressed. Here are some examples:Are the financials for the hospital where they need to be?Are we competitive and fiscally sound? Is our marketing campaign regarding our new joint venture successful?Note: This activity will be completed in a discussion. It will not be graded as a project component.Unit 5: In this unit, you will follow Step 2 of the model and start to work on Step 3. You are asked to find three or four valid and credible sources of information based on your chosen issue and submit an analysis of the sources. As you gather this information, you will likely gain insights from the information.Unit 6: In this unit, you will follow Step 1 again as you identify a clinical issue or concern that needs to be addressed. For example, are the rates for re-admissions for congestive heart failure improving? Are we achieving accreditation standards that are above the national average? Are the benchmarks for orthopedic surgeries above the national norm? There are two reasons for following this step twice:Since there are two parts of health carebusiness and clinicalyou are asked to come up with an issue or problem to investigate in each area. This will give you an opportunity to understand both sides of health care.Defining the right problem and coming up with the right question can sometimes be a challenge. Lacking a clear question or properly defined problem could skew your research. Therefore, it is a good idea to practice this step a few times during your research process.Note: This activity will be completed in a discussion. It will not be graded as a project component.Unit 7: As in Unit 5, you will follow Step 2 of the model and start to work on Step 3. You are asked to find three or four valid and credible sources of information based on the clinical issue and submit an analysis of the sources.Unit 9: In this unit, you will select which problembusiness or clinicalyou would like to resolve using the remaining steps of the evidence-based model. Once you select which problem you would like to focus on for the final part of your project, you are asked to finish Step 3, working on gaining insights from your research. Note that you may find yourself looking for a few more resources. Next, you will organize the information in a presentable format. You should create a paper that could be presented to the stakeholders. However, you are not expected to actually present the information. This task follows Step 4 of the model. The final part of this assignment will follow Step 5making evidence-based decisions. From the information gathered, you are asked to make a decision that would benefit the organization, based on the problem originally identified. You will submit a draft of your paper in a discussion to get feedback from your peers and instructor.Unit 10: In this final unit of the course, you will submit your final paper, which you will revise using the feedback you received in Unit 9.In Unit 1, you are encouraged to start thinking about an issue or problem to investigate, though your topic selection is not due until Unit 3. If you have trouble coming up with a topic, contact your instructor for guidance. To successfully complete this project, you will be expected to:Demonstrate the use of the evidence-based management process.Demonstrate analytical decision-making skills.Synthesize information to support evidence-based decisions.Analyze sources of information utilized in the practice of evidence-based management.Use key components of the evidence-based management process.Toggle DrawerProject RequirementsTo achieve a successful project experience and outcome, you are expected to meet the following requirements.Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.APA formatting: The entire papers, including references and citations, is written following current APA style and formatting guidelines.Number of resources: Minimum of 10 articles cited.
