That is, justify or back-up your position rather than merely “declare or proclaim it.” Remember: You might conceivably arrive at the conclusion that some other alternative position, unlike any of those articulated by the competing sides identified in #1 above, is most appropriate. So do not feel restricted by having to identify exclusively with one of the competing positions identified in #1.
