WHAT ROLE DOES MASS MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY PLAY IN YOUR SOCIETY?

Pick at least 3 days out of this 3 week time period to fast from technology. If it is possible to do so for several days at a time please do so.To the greatest extent possible, fast from all media and technology use. Understandably, you may have work that requires use of computers and other technology. You may need to communicate with friends and family and fulfill other obligations related to cell phones, laptops, and other technological devices. With that said, challenge yourself to use technological devices the least amount of time possible in these four days. You have a four week stretch to pick the days that make the most sense for you. Abstain from social networking, cell phone use and texting when unnecessary. Take opportunities to leave your cell phone behind (at home, in your dorm, etc.) whenever possible. Fast from TV, movies, video games, etc, and find other things to do that require meditation, time with nature or non-technological human interaction. As necessary and desirable, inform your friends, family, peers, social networks, etc, of your requirement to “fast”… It will create some great conversation opportunities later on.Consider the following questions for a 3 page essay:How did fasting from media and technology affect you mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually? How did it affect your interactions/conversations with people?How did this affect your notion of “time”? What did you do with your “time” away from technology and media?Reflect on the role that cell phones, social networking, technological devices and media play in your life. What do these things mean to you? How do they affect you, positively and negatively? What role does mass media and technology play in your society? How are media and technology changing your community and society?Your essay should be about 3 pages in length, 12 pt. Times New Roman font or equivalent, double-spaced with one-inch margins.
