This assignment has several components. First, read Benson’s book. Next, read Chekoway’s book. Write a summary of key points from both Benson’s and Checkoway’s books by; identifying key points, application to your chosen career area within RTM, and connection to issues “in the news” in Los Angeles or other communities. Thirdly, relate wat you read in the two books to 40 Developmental Assets for Youth, and discuss inclusion of children and youth with special needs (cognitive, psychomotor, etc.), as well as socio-economic challenges. How do professionals in our field have the opportunity to change lives? How will you when employed in parks, recreation, hospitality, and tourism? How would an intergenerational, cross-cultural approach enhance the efficacy (successful implementation) of your recommended programmatic “solutions”? Think of yourself as a professional employed in the community asked to report on how the issue is being addressed. Research and incorporate current events in communities throughout the US and around the world. These will impact security, police action individual choices of how to use public places in daily activities, tourism, hospitality or when attending large events.
