Writing a short research paper. You will research a news article to show an application of the theory for one theoretical concept, drawn at random. The research assignment must be done individually. TOPICS ASSIGNED THROUGH RANDOM SELECTION: Each student will randomly draw a due date, with papers due via Bb before the class starting time, on these dates (these dates are tentative, and may be changed when topics are handed out) : federal taxes or federal revenue or proposed tax change or federal budget or tax efficiency or tax equity federal budget deficit or federal debt (National Debt) or (aggregate/national) savings in the U.S. or (aggregate/national) investment in the U.S. or the U.S. financial system fiscal policy or fiscal stabilization or supply side economics aggregate demand or (aggregate/national) U.S. household consumption or (aggregate/national) supplies of goods and services or (aggregate/national) exports or (aggregate/national) imports or exchange rates Federal Reserve System or monetary policy or interest rates or mortgage rates or money supply or money demand growth of the money supply or inflation WRITTEN REPORT: Students must use the Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center databases to find at least one online article on some news topic from a newspaper, with that news article written in March 2017 or later, on your topic. You will write a 2- to 3-page paper concerning this topic, with the entire paper written in your own words. DO NOT include quotes!!! Before you submit your paper, at least one week before it is due, you will be responsible for running your paper through turnitin.com, to look for any evidence of plagiarism. Instructions will be posted in Bb for doing this. If your report contains ANY evidence of plagiarism when it is submitted to Dr. Elkassabgi, the maximum score the case study will be scored is based on 10 points, NOT 20 points. Dr. Elkassabgi reserves the right to award a score of zero (-0-) on the paper as a result of evidence of gross plagiarism. Your paper must: Explain/summarize this news article, and Use theory from our course to explain/interpret this news article, specifically to show that you understand the relevant theory from our course/text. Your written reports must be submitted via Bb, before class on the due date (which will be provided by the instructor), and must include the following 4 items: A. Cover sheet, which includes the following information: 1. Your name 2. Your course and section number B. The main body of your report must be 2 to 3 pages in length. This TWO- to THREE-page paper will be (a) a summary and (b) analysis of an online article, with emphasis on explaining how it relates to the specific topic of economic analysis selected. C. Citations of all reference materials you used, using APA or MLA style, on a page that follows the 2- to 3-page body of your written text D. The text of the article your paper is based upon must be attached at the end. Use turnitin in Bb to submit your report as a single MSWord file. Be sure your name(s) and course/section numbers are provided on a title page. Note & WARNING: You must cite all references.
