Document formatting instructions:
1. The document should have its own title page (name of object or process being described at upper middle of the page and your name and the date, centered, at the bottom of the page). It should not be an APA title page with running head, etc.–this is not a research paper.
2. Single-space (1.0 line spacing) all text in the documents.
3. Use Times New Roman 12-point font. Use 14- or 16-point for titles and subtitles.
4. 500-800 words
5. At least one graphic is required.
6. Write in third-person point of view. Don’t use the following pronouns: I, me, my, we, our, us, you, your, you’re.
7. Use the questions below in your document as subtitles and put the answers underneath each question:
What is the object or process?
How is it defined?
What does the object or process do?
What does the object or process look like?
What is the object made of? (if you are describing an object and not a process)
How does the object or process work?
Why should the reader be interested in your object or process?
Formatting Requirements
1. Center main titles. Put subtitles at the left margin.
2. Use the APA capitalization rules for titles and subtitles: Capitalize words with four or more letters and major words (nouns, verb, adverbs, adjectives, and pronouns). This rule DOES NOT apply to source titles in the reference list, which has a different capitalization rule
3. Bold face titles and subtitles. Do not underline them, italicize them or put them in ALL CAPITAL letters.
4. Do not put titles, sentences or paragraphs in italics font. Italics are harder for the eye to see. Save them for items that require them, such as book titles. Bold-face is better for emphasis than italics.
5. Always put a blank line above and below titles and subtitles to separate them visually from the body text. Put a blank line above and below a numbered or bulleted list. Put a blank line between each numbered or bulleted item to separate them visually.
6. Do not put text in ALL CAPS or use a font that is all caps. All Caps are harder for the eye to read.
7. Do not center sentences, paragraphs or bulleted/numbered lists. Centered text is harder for the eye to read. Centering titles is fine.
8. Use the black dot for bullet points. Don’t use arrows or other designs for bulleted lists.
