Like Paper #1, this paper should present an argument that focuses on a topic stemming from the Oppenlander text. However, it must be significantly different from your first paper. (In other words, you may not use any of the material from your first paper in your second paper.)
Once you have developed your new thesis, you must then support it thoroughly with solid, credible sources. Paper #2 must be a minimum of 5 pages in length.
You will need to use at least five (5) good sources for this paper, each of which must be accurately documented and cited according to MLA8 guidelines. At least four (4) of your sources must be scholarly materials from the Academic Databases. You may count Oppenlander’s book as one of your five sources, but you may not count it as one of your Academic Database sources.
Remember that an argument research paper requires the writer’s full engagement with the research materials. Do not skim your sources and pull a quotation here and there to sprinkle onto the page. Thoroughly read and understand your sources so that you are presenting an intelligent argument. If you do not understand one or more of the sources that you locate, please do not attempt to use them in your paper, as it will be clear to your reader that you do not comprehend the complexity of your subject matter.
As you research and read articles that you will be using as support, make sure you print and highlight your sources/ take notes in the margins/ take notes on separate paper. And keep your sources—throw nothing away! This will help you a great deal when it comes time to write your Annotated Bibliography.
